For Virtual Assistants Working Too Much, For Too Little and Feeling Stuck:

Breakthrough the Ceiling in Your VA Business, Escape The “Hours For Dollars” Grind, And Finally Earn What You’re Worth

If you’re tired of juggling 8-10 clients just to maintain a decent monthly revenue but can’t seem to break free from the never-ending cycle, then reading this letter will become one of the best investments you can make in your business.

Tell Me if Any of This Sounds Familiar…

  • You’re juggling too many clients just to earn a decent monthly income and you feel overwhelmed by everything that’s always on your plate
  • You wish you could afford to say “no” more often, but you’re worried about not having enough clients
  • You’re exhausted by the never-ending hunt for clients who not only need your help, but are actually willing to pay you for it
  • You work all the time, even nights and weekends, and you’re tired of missing out on so much family time at home
  • You feel your earning potential has hit a wall and although you want to charge more, you don’t know how to ask for—and get—what you’re worth
  • Your monthly invoices average only a few hundred dollars per client so you’re forced to squeeze in more clients and more work into an already packed schedule
  • You’re maxed out on client work but you’re still getting paid peanuts
  • You get nickel and dimed by clients who comb through each invoice and accuse you of charging them for extra minutes
  • You don’t feel the love and respect from your clients who turn a deaf ear to your ideas and suggestions
  • Your clients micromanage you and tell you how to do your job—even though you’re the expert at what you do

Hi, I’m Sharon Benson (formerly Broughton), Certified Online Business Manager™ and former VA to best-selling authors and experts like Fabienne Fredrickson, Ali Brown, Christine Kane, and others.

Over the last 16 years, I’ve just about seen it all when it comes to the virtual assistant industry.

I spent the first eight years of my business as a full-time VA. I loved helping my clients and had great working relationships with most, but I still felt something was missing. Many times it felt too much like a J.O.B., only one I could do in my PJs.

It felt like I had grown out of my original role, but was still being paid the lower rates of a VA.

I wanted to invest more in my clients, and for them to know I was really invested in them. And I wanted to be respected and treated as an equal to them, because I was an expert in my own right. But I wasn’t sure what that could look like.

I realized that the only way to grow on this path was to work more hours (but I had no more hours to give!)

If you’re like many VAs, you tend to have an eyes down, “get it done” mindset. I was the same way. But as time went on, I discovered that’s not where the real value comes from.

The Real Reason Why Clients Resist Paying You More

Other than a few bad apples, many clients are good, well meaning people. Like you, they run a business and have a lot on their mind (not to mention having a life outside of work and being there for their family).

Bills are constantly due, products need to be created and upgraded, plus their kid just broke their arm and now that’s a new medical expense…

In these situations, it’s only natural that they look for ways to save money.

Here’s a simple concept from the corporate world that illustrates this…

The Two Types of Work that Decide How Much You Get Paid

In business, you can break up activities into two main camps:

Cost Centers

Generally speaking, anything that’s required for the business to operate but doesn’t directly make the business money.

Here, the focus tends to be on budgeting and reducing costs.

Profit Centers

On the flip side are things that directly makes the business money. Think marketing campaigns and sales people.

Although you provide your clients with massive value, many VAs are seen as an operating expense.

The reason for this is that clients would prefer to just snap their fingers and have something taken care of instantly and for free.

But since that’s not possible, they pay for help turning their vision into a reality. And the best clients see the value in having competent help with this (read: you).

You help the business operate efficiently by completing tasks, but all things considered, an hour of your time doesn’t directly make the business money.

And because clients see you as an expense, it’s in their self-interest to reduce that expense. Which means not paying you what you’re worth or being resistant when you raise your rates.

Plus, to top it all off…

Ultimately, You Get Punished for Becoming More Valuable to Your Client!

Think about it. The best VAs are the most efficient and the ones who can get things done the fastest (without breaking anything).

And while that’s great news for your client (because they get more done without paying more), that’s a downward spiral for you as the VA.

Because the problem is that the better you get, the harder you actually have to work.

Since you’re trading hours for dollars, being more efficient means your client needs to give you more work to fill the same amount of hours, and if they can’t you need to find even more clients to fill the newly available time.

This Is the Silent Force Severely Limiting Most VAs Earning Potential

Because clients see your type of work as a Cost Center, they feel it’s in their best self-interest to drive down those costs. And that sometimes leads to clients nickel and diming or micromanaging.

And even though many clients might not be jerks, they’ll always want to reduce costs and spend less if they can.

So, what about finding more ways to make your client money?

Even though you could spend hundreds of hours and cobble together knowledge from a bunch of marketing & sales courses, you’re still faced with a dilemma…

Why So Many Virtual Assistants Struggle to Become “More than a VA”

There are two major problems VAs stumble upon when they try to branch out and become more than “just a VA” to their clients.

1) The Perception Problem

Once a client has an idea in their mind of what a VA is and does, it’s almost impossible to change that idea. Many clients see VAs as “worker bees” who are really good at getting stuff done… but don’t look to them for more than that.

And even if you start as a VA and grow into a bigger role, it gets harder and harder for clients to see you at a higher level. It can be really frustrating trying to get clients to listen to your ideas and take your insights seriously—let alone pay you more money—when you’re stuck being seen as only the VA.

2) Limited Perspective

Even though you may have been in your client’s business for awhile and have seen what works and what doesn’t, you still might not get the full picture.

Because you’re stuck in the nitty gritty details, you naturally tend to have a limited perspective on things. The client doesn’t clearly communicate to you their vision and where they want to go. And so your insights and suggestions can never be as accurate and as impactful as they could be.

But here’s the good news:

It’s Possible (And Surprisingly Simple) to Flip the Script and Get Clients Begging You for Your Advice—and Paying You Handsomely for It

Now, it’s not like you can flip a switch and be an instant business guru. Building expertise and gaining the trust of the best clients takes some work.

But, it’s not as difficult as you might think. And the process is straightforward.

Here’s the Fastest and Simplest Way for You to Become a Profit Center for Your Clients and Unleash Your Earning Potential:

Become an “Online Business Manager”

What is an Online Business Manager (OBM)?

A virtual-based support professional who manages the day-to-day activities of online-based businesses, including the management of projects, operations and team members.

Basically, an OBM works very closely with the client to understand their vision, plans and executes processes to achieve that vision, and delegates and oversees the work required to get there.

As an OBM, you are a vital component of your client’s business. You free up the business owner to focus their time and energy on their zone of genius – leaving you free to focus on your own.

And the best part?

When You Become a True Partner in Your Client’s Success, Your Earning Potential is Limitless

As an Online Business Manager, you enjoy a special relationship with your client. And with that new arrangement comes some very unique privileges.

You Become a Profit Center for the Business

Now your work directly impacts the success of your client’s company. Your contributions guide the company forward and keep it on the path to greater success and profits.

Rather than clients trying to limit your hours to save a few bucks, they’re thrilled to take all the hours you can give them. Because now your “return on investment” is abundantly clear to your clients.

And with that kind of demand, you’re able to ask for—and get—higher rates.

You Get to Partner with Clients Doing Work You’re Passionate About

Rather than stuffing your schedule with clients just to maintain a decent monthly revenue, you only need to fill 1-3 slots. Plus, these OBM clients pay you consistently and stick with you for the long-term.

And because you have fewer slots to fill and aren’t constantly searching for new clients, you find yourself in a much better negotiating position. You can be ultra selective. You have the power to choose the clients and projects you resonate with and are proud to support.

You become an integral part of your clients’ missions and get to be front and center as the impact you’re having mushrooms.

Your Schedule Stabilizes and You Finally Get to Focus

If you’ve been flying by the seat of your pants every month, worried about having enough clients, now you get to settle in and dig deep into long-term work with just a few clients.

And because clients clearly see and respect the value you provide, they become your biggest fans – and biggest referral sources. Oftentimes, if you do good work for one business owner, many others are likely to hear about it and start chomping at the bit to get a chance to work with you.

You Love Mondays and Are Excited to Jump In

You can enjoy getting up in the morning. You know you’re working only with clients you love and making an impact you’re passionate about. You come back to work refreshed because you were able to be “off the grid” this weekend.

Now your work week is no longer a mad dash between Client A to Client B to Clients C through Z. And your work day is spent on the most exciting and meaningful projects, rather than the boring, repetitive tasks.

… And You Even Love Invoicing

You’ll have less clients who each pay you a premium for your work. That means less administrative overhead and even a bit of fun as you send invoices and get paid consistently, knowing you’re earning what you’re worth.

You Drive Results and Master the Skills of Business

Your skills and experience as an OBM allow you to chart your own path. If you’d like, you can continue to enjoy the impact and income of being an OBM forever.

And if you decide later you want to start your own business, you’ll have the skills and confidence to handle any challenge thrown your way.

Sounds great, right? But I understand if that little voice of doubt is starting to chime in. In fact, a big concern I hear all the time from VAs considering stepping up is this:

“But What if I Just Don’t Have Enough Experience Yet?”

If you’re asking this question, I want you to know I completely understand where you’re coming from. It can seem like there’s a big gap between being a VA and the role of an OBM.

But actually, it’s a much smaller gap than you might imagine. In fact, you might be much more prepared for the role than you think. Let me explain…

These 3 Common Misconceptions Hold Back Completely Capable VAs from Stepping Into the OBM Role

Misconception #1: “I don’t know enough yet to be an OBM”

Now, it’s possible that this is actually true. But since you’ve read this far, let’s examine this more closely.

It can be difficult for us to see ourselves as we actually are. Things that used to take us hours now take minutes, but we forget how much we’ve improved. We don’t usually see how advanced we’ve become until those rare moments when someone points out our skill. And we go “oh yeah, I am really good at this.”

And if you’re worried that you don’t know enough to be an OBM, this is probably the case for you. It’s very likely you have a wide array and depth of competencies you don’t give yourself enough credit for. But if you’ve been a VA for awhile, I promise you that they are there.

Plus, as I’ll talk about in just a little bit, there’s a way to make sure you know everything you need to know before you step into the role of an OBM.

Misconception #2: “Will clients really pay me for that?”

Of course, it’s simple to understand conceptually that someone could get paid for something like this. But do VAs really transition into becoming successful OBMs? And is this something you could do yourself?

While I don’t know your unique circumstances yet, I can tell you that many VAs have already done this successfully. Some of these VAs were likely even in a very similar situation to the one you’re in now.

And even without having met you face-to-face, I’m confident that you would reach the same result. Why am I so confident?

Because if you’ve been a VA for awhile, you’re a smart, capable person. You’ve built relationships with clients, you’ve overcome roadblocks along the way, and you’ve stayed in the game and improved your skills.

You’re probably closer to the OBM role than you realize. And all you may need is just a little bit of training and support to get you to the next level.

Misconception #3: “I don’t have the time to learn a whole new set of skills”

And if this is you, I completely understand why it might feel like you’re too short on time. As a VA you probably feel maxed out and don’t think you have space for anything extra.

But let’s take a step back and consider another way of looking at this. Because the actual skills of an OBM are incredibly valuable, clients covet these skills and will pay higher rates to whoever can provide them.

By adding these skills to your repertoire, you can work the same amount of hours but get paid much, much more. Because your time is now valued more highly.

And by investing a little bit of time now to gain these skills, you’ll find they pay huge dividends quickly, and for months and years to come.

So by now you might be wondering, how do you actually transition from VA work to becoming an Online Business Manager and getting OBM clients?

“Is This Really Right for Me?”

If more than one of these ring true for you, Highly Profitable OBM is for you…

  • You’ve been a VA for at least six months and have experience working in the virtual world
  • You want to be more than a VA to your clients, and are ready for the next step
  • You’re willing and able to carve out a few hours a week to go through the program (each minute you put into this program is worth it, but you do need to find the time)
  • You’re not completely satisfied with your current direction and feel like something’s missing
  • You’re already acting like an OBM with some of your clients, but you’re not charging for it or getting the respect you feel you deserve
  • You’re bored with your current work and feel that you’ve outgrown it
  • You’ve seen other OBMs out there making great money at this and think, “if those people can do it, then I can too!”

If those sound like you, Highly Profitable OBM is very likely for you. However, going through the program and becoming a Certified OBM is not for every VA…

Please Don’t Join if Any of These Apply to You

If any of these sound like you, please don’t apply yet. I don’t want you to put forward the energy and effort to go through the program until you’re truly ready to get the most out of it.

  • You’re afraid to grow and don’t feel you’d have the motivation to go through a comprehensive program like this
  • You’re already earning high rates as an OBM and feel like a true partner to your clients
  • You’re just starting out in the VA world and haven’t gotten your first client yet
  • You just want somebody to tell you what to do all the time and are content with that kind of working relationship
  • You don’t want to partner with clients—in fact you’d prefer not to be responsible for their success in any way

Please know, I’m not placing judgement or saying any of the above is bad. There are plenty of VAs who fit the criteria above and can continue to thrive in the role. It just means that if any of these apply to you, this certification and training program would likely be the wrong fit for you.

If you’re not sure, the best bet is for us to have a conversation so I can help you get to clarity. Click here to schedule a call now.

“Why Are You Offering Something Like This?”

If you’re wondering why I’d take time away from a thriving OBM business to facilitate this training, there are two main reasons:

1: This is my own opportunity to give back and make an impact

I know how much becoming an OBM changed my life as far as my income, what I do and so much more. Becoming an Online Business Manager allowed me to start hitting six figures consistently every year.

That’s a truly transformational amount of money, especially when you have a family to support. And so I wanted to teach other VAs how to do it as well so they could have that same opportunity.

2: I’m really a teacher at heart

Although I’m usually working in the weeds everyday helping my clients, I absolutely love to teach. So getting to take a step back and teach you and other VAs how to become OBMs is a wonderful opportunity for me.

Now you might be wondering…

Why Am I So Confident YOU Can Do This?

This is NOT like one of those “Facebook Ads Mastery” courses taught by someone who just discovered how to run ads last week. I’ve been an Online Business Manager for 8 years now. I know what it takes to succeed as an OBM and get great results for real paying clients.

With this training and certification program, you are learning from a bona fide expert.

Here’s my promise: If you commit to this program, engage with the training, reach out for support and interact with me and your cohorts, I am supremely confident you will thrive as an Online Business Manager.

You’re Protected by My “Check It Out First” 100% Money-Back Guarantee

Because of the nature of this program and the level of personal involvement it takes to facilitate, I can’t offer an extended guarantee. Plus, I want only serious people to enroll.

However, I want you to have complete confidence that this is the real deal. That’s why upon your acceptance into the program, you’ll have 15 days or three lessons (whichever comes first) to check things out and do your due diligence.

If you decide you’re not happy for any reason, just let me know via email within that time period and I’ll refund 100% of your money.

Here’s How To Get Started

Apply for a Free, Zero Pressure Conversation Today

Now it’s time for me to help you get clarity and either move forward into the program, or decide that now is not the right time. The best way for me to do that is through the following three steps:

Step 1) You complete a simple, straightforward application

This questionnaire will help me get to know you and your specific situation. That way when we get to Step 2, we’ll be able to dive right in and have a very productive conversation.

Step 2) We have a 45-Minute “Right Fit” consultation call

Next, we’ll schedule a 45-minute phone call and have a conversation about this program and how it fits into your overall goals. Together we’ll get clear about whether or not this program is a good fit for you.

Now, you might be wondering…

Will this really be a “zero pressure” call?

100% yes. If you’re like me, you hate being “salesy.” And if I try to “sell” someone who’s not ready into the program, it’s actually a lose-lose-lose. Here’s why…

If someone has a bad experience in the program because they weren’t a good fit, that hurts my reputation. And it’s even worse for me because one of the very limited student slots was taken by someone who was a bad fit. And to top if off, someone who was a good fit misses out on the opportunity to become a Certified OBM.

It’s in everyone’s best interest to make sure this is a good fit before moving forward.

Step 3) If accepted, you’ll be welcomed into the program and given everything you need

Finally, once accepted I’ll give you a warm welcome and make sure you have everything you need to get started on the right foot and succeed in the program.

You’re Not Alone. Here’s What Happened for Other Graduates of the Program…

“I feel much more secure with 2 clients than I ever did with 8-10 clients…”

For me, working as an OBM is vastly different than working as a VA. I struggled financially for 9 years as a VA and I didn’t feel the love and respect from my clients like I do as an OBM.

As a VA, it would take 8-10 clients to maintain a decent monthly revenue and now I have 2 main clients who provide me steadily with more money than I made as a VA. Not only am I playing a bigger role and I’m more invested in my clients’ success but they are playing a bigger role with me too. They are fully invested in me too (my personal welfare, my happiness in my role as OBM and they have a long-term “we’re in this for the long haul” mindset) so I feel much more secure with 2 clients than I ever did with 8-10 clients.

Becoming certified helped me feel confident and competent in my new role and I don’t regret investing the money to become certified.

“After certification, my monthly retainers now average in the multiple $1000’s every month”

OBM Certification Training changed my business in every respect.

Before certification, I was a struggling VA billing by the hour. My monthly invoices averaged $250 per client. After certification, my monthly retainers now average in the multiple $1000’s every month. Certification helped me discover my passion and gave me the confidence to charge what I’m worth.

Still Have Questions?

Some of the best OBMs are detail-oriented and thorough, so I appreciate you taking the time to make sure all your questions get answered.

If you still have questions after reading the FAQ section below, please send an email to and we will reply shortly.

Do I really need to be certified?

While you can fulfill the duties of an OBM without certification, there are two main reasons I highly recommend becoming certified:

  1. Certification itself gives you the confidence and competence to do excellent work as an OBM. Not only will you gain new skills and strengthen your current abilities, but through certification you’ll know for certain you have what it takes to get your clients results.
  2. The Certification process is the best path for reaching the top 10% of your market. While anyone can call themselves an OBM, becoming a Certified Online Business Manager™ signals to your clients and the market that you’re a serious, reliable professional.
I’m a new virtual assistant. Is this right for me?

I’ve seen that those that get the best results from this program have been in the virtual support world for at least 6-12 months. That being said, you may have other experience that would give you an advantage. The best thing for us to do if you’re not sure is to have a conversation and explore the possibility together.

Do I need to have experience managing people or companies?

No! This is a common misconception that actually stops many people from even considering stepping into the role. Everything you need to know to step into the role, you’ll learn during the program. From there, you’ll be fully prepared to become an OBM and work with paying clients.

Will my current clients really want me to be their OBM?

It depends. In my experience, some will be ready to work with you in this new way immediately, while others will need more hand-holding during the transition.

What you should realize is that if you’ve already been doing any high-level work like delegating to other team members, planning projects, or helping clients directly grow their business, you should already be earning the rates of an OBM.

What if I don’t have time for this?

This program is specifically designed to double and triple the value of every hour you work, and charge much higher rates for the work you do.

So while it’s a small investment of time upfront, you’ll be able to reap the benefits of higher rates and more flexible client arrangements for months and years to come.

I recommend setting aside 2-3 hours per week for this program.

What is OBM Certification Week all about?

Certification Exam Week happens quarterly. Examination week is carried out by the International Association of Online Business Managers and the cost to take the exam is $297.

You will be eligible to participate in Certification Week once you’ve completed this 90 day program. Exam week is a series of practical projects and is designed to simulate what it’s like to work with a real OBM clients. The amount of time to consider for each day of certification week is 2.5 hours.

Do you offer refunds?

Because of the nature of this program and the level of personal involvement it takes to facilitate, I can’t offer an extended guarantee. Plus, I only want serious people to enroll.

What’s Next for You?

If you’ve made it this far, then you know it’s time to make a choice.

You can keep up the struggle and try to squeeze in more hours and more clients into your limited time. You already know what that feels like, and it’s up to you if you’d like to continue down that path.

On the other hand, if you want to explore another path, one that involves getting to the next level of your business and enjoying all those advantages, I invite you to apply for Highly Profitable OBM.

And although partnering with businesses, earning their respect and admiration, and getting paid what you’re worth is amazing, there’s more to it than that. And it’s something I didn’t expect to feel when I first made the decision to become an OBM.

I get to know I’m leaving my mark on the world. I know that because of the work I do, the world is getting better, faster. People’s lives are better. I’m making an impact.

And my daughter gets to see me as an entrepreneur making good money. She sees me living my true life and purpose, and being successful at it. Most importantly, it opens her eyes to what’s possible. Because she sees her mom doing it, she knows she can do the same thing. It opens up a whole world of possibility for her.

And all of that becomes my legacy. Which is a very special opportunity, and one that I’m deeply grateful for. Stepping into the OBM role has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Now I want you to have that same opportunity. Will you join me?
